TALYLLYN RAILWAY
| THE TALYLLYN RAILWAY |
|---|
Opened in 1865 to carry slate the Talyllyn Railway has always had a place in railway enthusiasts hearts. In 1951 it became the world's first preserved railway, leading the way for many others to follow across the world. So 2011 will be the TRPS's 60th Anniversary, visit www.talyllyn.co.uk for news of forthcoming special events. 2007 and 2008 were particularly hard years financially for the railway, but Preservation Society funds and drastic action by the TR Board enabled it to get through the troubles. 2009 proved to be a better year, however reserves are low. I am asking you to consider helping the railway recover its reserves by supporting any of the schemes listed below. My only connection with the railway is being a life member. You do not have to be a member to participate, any donation will be gratefully received. Please consider supporting one of the following fund raising schemes. |
| 1. £2 SINGLE TO NANT GWERNOL APPEAL |
|---|
This is my own idea which in the long term could raise over £800,000 for the Preservation Society. Imagine laying £2 coins side by side for the length of the Talyllyn Railway, from the buffers at Tywyn Wharf to those at Nant Gwernol, a distance of 7.25 miles. Each yard covered will raise £64. If you would like to support my effort and make a donation please send a cheque made payable to 'Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society' to the shop address. I will ensure that it will get to them through the appeal. If you wish to make a donation by credit or debit card please email me at steve@back2bay6.net and I will arrange that for you. A souvenir Edmundson ticket will be sent to everyone making a donation of £2 or more. The running total appears below. Thank you for your support. THE APPEAL TOTAL AS AT 31st AUGUST 2010 Thank you for all your donations.

| 2. No.2 DOLGOCH APPEAL |
|---|
TR Loco No.2 'Dolgoch' requires a new boiler and overhaul. An appeal has been launched to raise the estimated £60 - 70K needed to carry out this work. It is hoped to have the engine back in service by May 2011 in time for the 60th anniversary of the first preservation train, which was hauled by No.2. Photo courtesy of the TRPS, copyright. Talyllyn Holdings Limited is a Registered Charity, Number 1089053 If you would like to make a donation, which can be Gift Aided, please send a cheque payable to 'Talyllyn Holdings Limited' to: Talyllyn Holdings Limited, |
| 3. TALYLLYN RAILWAY PRESERVATION SOCIETY TOTE |
|---|
The TRPS Tote gives you a chance of winning some money as well as supporting the Railway. Tickets are £12 per year. Your number is entered into a monthly draw where 6 prizes are drawn. Your number is valid in all 12 draws, even if you win! The income is split 50% to the TRPS and 50% in prizes. The first prize is 50% of that months prize fund, with five others of 10%. In December the first prize was £66.25 and 5 of £13.25. Prizes vary depending on the number of ticket holders each month. £1570 was raised for the TRPS in 2009 through this scheme. You do not have to be a member of the TRPS to join, but you must be over 18. To enter please send a cheque for the total number of tickets you require (£12 each), payable to 'Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society' to: Noel Williams |
